Teaching students aged 7 to 27

How are guardians kept informed about their child's progress?

At Amaranth Music, we aim to keep guardians informed about their child's progress. We:

  • Encourage that guardian(s) sit in the studio during their child's One Hour Audition Lesson to observe what we do, and to give support (providing the student feels comfortable with guardians observing their lesson);
  • Invite guardians to observe other appropriate lessons (providing the student feels comfortable with guardians observing their lessons);
  • Welcome guardians to regularly discuss their child's progress with their teacher (it is usually best to do so during the discussion and administration time that comes at the BEGINNING OF EACH LESSON), and;
  • Provide formative, annual reports at the end of each year to all students aged 18 years and under.

Do we read print music?

At Amaranth Music, we use accepted traditional and contemporary song-teaching methods:

  • Using the traditional teaching method, we read printed music when teaching students.
  • Using the contemporary method, we follow printed lyrics and aural cues played on prerecorded CDs when teaching students. This is very different to karaoke singing, and is an established and valued teaching method.

Upon request, we can also teach students to read printed music.

Do we offer performance opportunities?

Yes. We offer appropriate performance opportunities to students of all ages, styles and levels of mastery in the form of performance classes and workshops, co-curricular presentations, concerts, and our annual production. Participation in these events is optional to any student who is determined by teacher and student to be ready for public performance.

Upon request, we can also help students prepare for exams, Eisteddfods and other events.

What does the student need to provide?

    The student needs to bring the following to each lesson:
  • A pencil;
  • A folder to keep lyrics, sheet music and pencil in;
  • Optional: a small notebook in which to notate practice instructions and questions (especially for younger students).

If the song that the student wishes to sing is not in the Amaranth Music Library, the student also needs to bring their own CD recordings, lyrics and/or sheet music to lessons.
